Collection of the rings with an inspiration from Halligdal bunad’s embroidery
(master's project)
Norwegian national costumes, known as bunad, are formal festive costumes that originate from the folk costumes worn in peasant society in the pre-industrial times. (Durán & Henriksson, 2013)

The variety of the patterns on Norwegian bunads from the different areas makes me think about the variety of the patterns on the Ukrainian vyshyvanka (the embroidered shirt).

Among different ornaments from bunad embroidery, I decided to focus on the organic shapes. I found the “heart motif”, “wheel motif” and combination of the colours fascinating. Those embroidered motifs from Hallingdal are the source of my idea.

I started to work with the ornament from Hallingdal bunad in the fall 2015. I used transparent acryl (Plexiglas) with 5 mm thickness, plastic with mirror coating, sterling silver, silk, cotton and phosphorus threads.

The embroidered ornament is protected with two acrylic parts from the both sides. It saves the threads from damage and gives depth to the ornament.
